Vivid, honest and capitvating songwriting. We all need art to coax us to feel deeply at times, to provide a space for reflection. This debut album acts as an imperfect mirror to what we all experience and what we hope to become.Genre: Folk: Alternative Folk
Release Date: 2012

2010-Present:

Drew Kullman – Vocals / Acoustic Guitar
Kyle Crosby- Keyboards / Accordion
Brian Durrette- Bass / Vocals
Lee Brooks – Drums

Comprised of four individuals as unique as the music they create, The Simma Downs mix musicianship and melody with emotion in a new alternative folk sound.  As new to the scene as they are, their songs have reached a level of maturity that will provoke and satisfy the avid music fan who is forever searching for something new; and yet they still lend themselves to broad appeal.

The Simma Downs features members from Richmond’s most recognized names in rock – Carbon Leaf, Copper Sails, and Leon Millmore.  Their combined experience includes everything from opening for major label acts such as The Strokes and Switchfoot to licensing songs to ESPN and MTV.

Together, as The Simma Downs, they blend powerful vocals and classic melodies with rhythmically compelling acoustic guitar, harmonically interesting keyboard textures, and solid bass and drums.

In regards to lyrical depth, a quote from Drew’s individual biography say’s it best:

It’s surprising that Drew Kullman isn’t a blues man. He was with his daughter during each of her six heart surgeries, he was with his son when he was diagnosed with schizophrenia, he sat in jail after being falsely accused and convicted, he knelt by his birth mother’s death bed just 24 hours after he found out about her existence, and he’s held a gun to his head, seconds away from pulling the trigger.

…and yet, his music and lyrics are not about despair or misery. His words are a resonant voice of hope, defining his journey with a raw perspective and honesty.
